things that annoy me #s 5, 6, and 7

I've had these saved up for a while. Bear with me now:

No. 5: People who drive with their iPod headphones in their ears. Having one headphone in is bad enough, but a few weeks ago I was very nearly mowed down at a crosswalk by some Asian mom with BOTH her headphones in her ears and two little moppets in the back seat. I can understand some idiot teenager driving around with their headphones plugged in because they absolutely cannot go one minute without their sullen indie rock, but really, Asian mom? You've got kids in the back seat!

No. 6: People who take the elevator one story at work. Since my desk is conveniently located three floors below from my lab, I take the elevator literally 8-10 times a day and I cannot count the number of seemingly healthy people who are carrying not much more than a lunch pail taking the elevator from 1 to 2. They can't ALL have heart conditions.

No. 7: The phrase "Let's discuss this offline." Of all the annoying bits of corporate lingo I've heard recently, this one bothers me the most. Mostly because it doesn't make a lick of sense--I mean, I didn't realize we were currently "online." Apparently, it means "Let's talk about this later instead of during this meeting," but I'm not quite sure why we couldn't just say "Let's talk about this later instead of during this meeting." I suppose there's an argument to be made for brevity, but what's the point if you sound idiotic? And how is it so widespread? Do people learn this stuff in business school?
