today in music...

1. It's the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' rooftop concert. Thanks to a recent viewing of the Beatles Anthology, I've been playing them on loop at work and on the Pod. According to Last.fm I've played 130 Beatles songs in the past 7 days (!!!). As much as I'd have loved to see that concert, I'd much rather have seen this performance:

They just look like they're having so much fun. John is going apeshit on the keyboard and missing half his lines. Paul is just screaming away and doing his silly little Beatle head bob, trying to keep it together while George and John go completely off the rails. I love it halfway through the song when John (or George?) totally hits a bum note and they both start cracking up. Here they just look they're having a great time, not like they're going to break up in a few months. This clip makes me laugh every time. OK, in reality, you'd probably have been so far away from the stage they'd have appeared ant-sized, but how awesome would it have been still? They'd have totally brought out the screaming/crying/fainting fangirl in me. Sir Paul is still on my very short list of musicians I need to see live in my lifetime. He's headlining Coachella this year and if I had $300 in disposable income and the inclination to traipse around the Inland Empire with gaggles of hipsters, I'd totally be there! Plus, he was so cute on Colbert a few nights ago when he obliged Stephen by knighting him with a water bottle.

2. Speaking of old guys I'd kill to see in person, Bob Dylan is collaborating with Will.i.am. for a Pepsi superbowl commercial. Not only does the commercial cost an exorbitant $6 million for airtime (not including however much they had to pay Bob and Will.i.am.), but that duo totally brings to mind the phrase, "uh, what?" It's not like I think Will.i.am is totally abhorrent or anything, but that's just...odd for Bob. Then again I guess he hasn't really cared what anyone's thought of him since, like, 1967. And really this can't be any more bizarre than the infamous Victoria's Secret commercial. Oh Bob, I just can't quit you.

ETA: Apparently here is the commercial:

Uhhh, I totally like it. I'm lame like that.
