reasons why i love the olympics

1. You are allowed to be insanely patriotic and root for any American in any race even if they have no chance and you have never heard of them.
2. You get wildly overexcited about sports you only pay attention to every four years.
3. Swimming and the really hot people that do it.
4. Gymnastics and the fact that the atheletes are perma stuck in the 80s--body glitter, scrunchies, triangle clips, et al. And the sheer insanity of tiny bendy people flinging themselves in air in strange contortions.
5. Winners crying on the medal stand and during national anthems.
6. Winners going insane, like that guy from Trinidad and Tobago who won silver in the 100m dash and celebrated like he won gold by jumping up and down and writhing on the track.
7. People living up to the hype. Yeah, I mean you, Phelpsy. You may actually be part dolphin.
8. Morgan Freeman-narrated inspirational VISA commercials.
9. International cooperation and understanding and all that good stuff.
10. Athletes who don't make millions of dollars a year and aren't famous get their moment.
